Billy does plan to come back,而他也答應會回來演出,只要CBS和CSI製作群提出要求。
還有此篇再度提到Jorja(Sara Sidle )會在Grissom離開那集參與。

Las Vegas has a vacancy to fill.

With the news that William Petersen (Gil Grissom) is leaving CSI: Crime Scene Investigation during the upcoming ninth season, the show is searching for a replacement. CBS has considered high profile actors such as Laurence Fishburne and John Malkovich to portray a new character. "He's not going to fill Billy's position," a spokeswoman told the New York Post, "but it's going to be a two-part episode."

As previously reported, the character will start as a professor who specializes in pathology. Eventually, after helping the team solve the case in the two-part episode, the character will become a CSI. "It's all under discussion," said a production source. However, that doesn't mean Petersen will be gone forever. "Billy does plan to come back," the spokeswoman explained, and he will stay on as an executive producer for the show.

"It's not the end of the show. There's a lot of good stuff coming up," the spokeswoman said. In addition to the new male character, CSI will welcome a new female CSI, played by Lauren Lee Smith. Smith's character, Riley Adams, is replacing Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) in the crime lab. Fox left the show last season, but she will be returning for the first three episodes of season nine. The actress may also return to be part of Grissom's exit later in the season.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor William Petersen's exit from the CBS hit "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" opens the door for a new character to join the show's crime-busting team -- only this one just could be a crazed killer.

CBS's programming chief, Nina Tassler, on Friday confirmed Petersen's plans to leave the show at the mid-point of the upcoming TV season, after the first 10 episodes.

Unlike Petersen's character, Gil Grissom, a brainy investigator who heads a Las Vegas crime unit, the show's new addition will be a scientist with a dark secret -- his genetic makeup is similar to that of known killers.

"He comes in not immediately as the boss, but he has an interesting genetic profile that in certain sort of medical contexts, they've noticed that many times serial killers have that same genetic profile," Tassler told a gathering of TV critics in Beverly Hills.

"This gentleman knows this about himself and is sort of in this journey and -- and to discover who his true character will ultimately become," she said.

The role has yet to be cast.

Petersen, who also is an executive producer of the show, will return for future guest star appearances but is interested in other creative pursuits, Tassler said. Petersen is due to appear in the play "Dublin Carol" in Chicago later this year.

If the season opener of CSI is any indication?CBS gave critics screeners of the episode this week?William Petersen is going to get quite the emotional workout in his final 10 episodes as a series regular. He gives one of his strongest performances to date as he grapples with the aftermath of the climactic shooting of Warrick (Gary Dourdan) in last season?s cliffhanger shocker. The episode also brings Jorja Fox?s Sara (looking softer and prettier) back into the picture, at least temporarily.

CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler, kicking off CBS?s portion of the fall-season TCA press tour on Friday morning, spent much of her session explaining the new character who will be introduced to eventually take over the team. Described by Tassler as ?an outsider coming into the CSI unit ? not immediately as the boss,? he?s a doctor and scientist with ?an interesting genetic profile that, in certain sort of medical contexts, they?ve noticed that many times serial killers have that same genetic profile.? Tassler says exec producers Carol Mendelsohn and Naren Shankar aren?t copying Showtime?s Dexter here; for one thing, he?s not symptomatic.

?This gentleman knows this [genetic background] about himself and is sort of on this journey to discover who his true character will ultimately become. ? Since [ CSI] is rooted in science, they wanted him to have a quality that would really inform his curiosity. ? He is not only learning what it is to be a CSI, but also a journey of self-discovery.? Tassler says the new character, who she promises will be played by ?an actor of stature,? will give the remaining ensemble a chance to ?show parts of their personality that the audiences perhaps haven?t seen ever before or at least in a while.?

With so much change afoot, Tassler is calling this the ?DVR-proof season of CSI.?
